Introduction
Good morning! It’s April 27th, 2025, and welcome to “Here’s a Minute”, a short-form podcast with history, fun facts, and a prompt in a minute — or maybe two. I’m Vian Vera.
Historical Fact
And I’m Lex Wu. The World’s Fair, hosted in 1939 by the city of New York, made its grand opening before World War 2 on this day. Built in the same area as Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, now home to Citi Field and the Billie Jean Tennis Center, people of all backgrounds headed over to see what companies all over the world were brewing up for the generation of tomorrow.
Fun Fact
One of the features showcased in the 1939 world exposition was a robot that smoked cigarettes. His name was Elektro :)
Writing Prompts
- Write about the sights and sounds you saw in the night, basking in the glow of new inventions.
- It turns out that there was one day where you could have as much fun as possible before they started demolishing the buildings. What would you do?
