Introduction#

Good morning! It’s April 20th, 2025, and welcome to “Here’s a Minute”, a short-form podcast with history, fun facts, and a prompt in a minute — or maybe two. I’m Lex Wu.

Historical Fact#

And I’m Vian Vera. In 1516, on April 23rd, dramatist and poet William Shakespeare was born. He produced over 35 plays and more than 150 sonnets, along with other poems such as two narrative works.

Fun Fact#

Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, and a few other works were produced in just one period of his life. He also had a comedic phase and a tragicomedy phase, where he bounced from The Comedy of Errors to The Tempest.

Writing Prompts#

  • Try writing in a William Shakespeare-style— it could be rewriting a scene from your favorite book or movie, or an event from real life.
  • Rewrite a scene from Romeo and Juliet, but from yet another viewpoint. Yeah, we’ve heard of Rosaline and Gnomeo, but who else could get in on the fun?
