Introduction#

Good morning! It’s April 6th, 2025, and welcome to “Here’s a Minute”, a short-form podcast with history, fun facts, and a prompt in a minute — or maybe two. I’m Lex Wu.

Historical Fact#

And I’m Vian Vera. On this day in 1896, the Olympic Games returned to the city of Athens, Greece, over a millenia after they were banned by the Roman Emperor Theodosius the first. Athletes from 13 different nations competed, and at the time, they actually used solid gold medals.

Fun Fact#

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, a revitalization of video games based on the Olympics, ended its run in 2020 after the IOC decided they weren’t going to put up with a plumber swimming anymore. (There’s probably more reason than that.)

Writing Prompts#

  • Write about the Olympics — but in a world where magic exists. Magical sports, cursing opponents, and lifting people unexpectedly are all fair game.
  • Write a persuasive essay on an ancient tradition you think should be brought back and why (please not human sacrifices please not human sacrifices)

Outro#

Our online portal is now online! Submit your stories to be featured in dramatic readings on our sister podcast, Here’s an Answer, coming soon.
