Introduction
Good morning! It’s March 30th, 2025, and welcome to “Here’s a Minute”, a short-form podcast with history, fun facts, and a prompt in a minute — or maybe two. I’m Lex Wu — Vian is off this week.
Historical Fact
In 1971, the first location of Starbucks was opened in Seattle’s Pike Place market. Unlike the coffee shops of today, they only sold hot drinks through a walk-in format. Additionally, they’re now one of the pinnacles of American capitalism - underpaying workers and slashing costs.
Fun Fact
Starbucks was named after the first mate of the Pequod ship in Moby Dick.
Writing Prompts
- You’re travelling through the countryside and stop for a drink of coffee in a cafe in the middle of nowhere. Who do you see?
- Describe your morning brew in excruciating detail.
