Introduction#

Good morning! It’s March 23rd, 2025, and welcome to “Here’s a Minute”, a short-form podcast with history, fun facts, and a prompt in a minute — or maybe two. I’m Lex Wu. Vian is off this week.

Historical Fact#

On a little innocuous day in 1839, “OK” was published in the Boston Morning Post. At the time, it was common for people to misspell words and use the initialisms as slang. It originally meant “All correct,” and it was pushed into the limelight once they continued to publish it.

Fun Fact#

The Boston Morning Post was later overrun by other newspapers like the Boston Herald, so it shut its doors in 1956. Ok.

Writing Prompts#

  • Write an interaction between two people who speak the same language, but very different dialects. Perhaps the vernacular has words in common, but different definitions. It’s up to you.
  • Write an origin story for a word, either inspired by a real word or make up yourself!

Outro#

Our online portal is now online! Submit your stories to be featured in dramatic readings on our sister podcast, Here’s an Answer, coming soon.

This podcast was written and hosted by Vian Vera and Lex Wu. We’ll see you next week.
