Introduction#

Good morning! It’s February 16th, 2025, and welcome to “Here’s a Minute”, a short-form podcast with history, fun facts, and a prompt in a minute — or maybe two. I’m Vian Vera.

Historical Fact#

And I’m Lex Wu. On February 18th, 1930, Pluto was discovered. People immediately hailed it as the 9th planet, which hurt even more when the imbeciles at the International Astronomical Union took it off the registry in August 2006. And the world has sucked even more since then.

Fun Fact#

Did you know that Pluto has a liquid water ocean beneath its surface, a result of glaciers long ago? It was also named by an 11-year-old, Venetia Burney.

Writing Prompt#

  • You’ve masterminded a plan to steal Pluto — but the problem is, no one will ever care because it’s a dwarf planet, and some random guy stole the moon (no relation to any particular film). You’re at a supervillian convention. Try to make people be impressed with your theft.
  • You’ve been training your whole life to be an astronaut, and the day your dreams come true has finally arrived.

Outro#

Our online portal is (hopefully) now online! Submit your stories, and we’ll figure out what to do with them later.

This podcast was written and hosted by Vian Vera and Lex Wu. We’ll see you next week.
