Good morning! It’s January 26th, 2025, and welcome to “Here’s a Minute”, a short-form podcast with history, fun facts, and a prompt in a minute — or maybe two. I’m Lex Wu.

Historical Fact#

And I’m Vian Vera. On January 27th, 1888, the National Geographic Society was incorporated. Nine months later, they published their first magazine. The organization is now well-known for its photography and its sponsorship of scientific explorations and discoveries.

Fun Fact#

They stopped producing monthly physical magazines in 2023, but the online version lives on.

Writing Prompts#

• You’re a photographer for National Geographic in a natural setting of your choosing when disaster strikes. However, your job depends on your ability to keep the camera rolling— and survive.
• Take a look through your camera roll or photo album. Select five or so images to string together into a story and write about it! It doesn’t have to be a coherent story - it could be about your grocery list or something else. Your choice!
