Good morning! It’s January 19th, 2025, and welcome to “Here’s a Minute”, a short-form podcast with history, fun facts, and a prompt in a minute — or maybe two. I’m Vian Vera.

Historical Fact#

And I’m Lex Wu. On January 19th, 1809, famed poet Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston, Massachusetts. He is best known for his poem “The Raven”, but also wrote many other stories, as well as working as an editor and literary critic.

Fun Fact#

The Baltimore Ravens were named after his poem, “The Raven.” They left it up to a newspaper to figure out a new name after they left Cleveland.

Writing Prompts#

• Embrace your emo side. Write a happy event from the perspective of an edgy teenager.
• Write “The Raven” but from the perspective of the bird, who is really enjoying watching this madman stumble all over himself in a craze.
• You’ve just woken up in a gutter after being out for who knows how long. Talk about your experiences reaching the outside world and trying to remember who you are.
